Gemological Institute Of America
The Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) is a non-profit institute dedicated to research and education in the field of gemmology and jewellery arts. Gübelin (est. 1854) began when a young man opened up a watch shop in Lucerne, Switzerland. However, it wasn't until the 1920s when they opened up a gem testing laboratory to test the jewels they put in the watches.
